A Head to Toe Workout On Your Gym’s Rowing Machine

If you’re looking to get an amazing workout from head to toe, increase your cardio respiratory fitness and do it all with little or NO impact on your body- look no further than the rowing machine at our Monmouth County gym.

Tucked towards the back of our cardio deck at Ultimate Fitness is the rowing machine.  This unassuming piece of equipment can provide you with one of the most comprehensive workouts in a very short amount of time.  Simulating the movement and resistance of being on the water, this exercise requires you to engage multiple muscles in your upper body, lower body and your entire core.  At the same time, you are greatly enhancing your cardio respiratory fitness with absolutely NO impact on your joints.

It is estimated that you can burn around 600 calories per hour rowing.  Plus- rowing is one of the few non-weight bearing sports that exercises all the major muscle groups.  The primary muscles worked are the quadriceps, the large muscles of the thigh.  However your lower and middle back, hamstrings, calves, glutes and biceps will all be engaged to perform this movement.  Basically you’ll feel the burn from head to toe.  Running on the treadmill can’t compare to the workout you get from rowing- plus you avoid the impact on your joints. 

If you would like to incorporate rowing into your daily exercise regimen, you can request an appointment with one of our personal trainers in Monmouth County to teach you the proper way to use the rowing machine.  Your half hour session will not only include instruction on how to use the machine but the proper form and technique to maintain while doing this exercise as well.

The 7:30pm boot camp training sessions will be held Monday-Wednesday to start, with more added as needed.  Ultimate Fit Zone is open 7 days a week- so if you’re available to train on the weekends Eddie also runs two boot camp programs on Saturday and the amazing trainer Bonnie Cioppa offers a HIIT program on Sunday mornings called HEAT.

How Personal Training With Eddie Helped Me Recover From My Complete Hip Replacement

About 4 years ago I found out that due to a malformation in my right hip, I would eventually need a complete hip replacement. My surgeon advised me to be as active as possible, do anything and everything to keep moving and when the time was right I would know it and be ready to have it replaced.

Here is where Eddie Albert of Ultimate Fitness in Ocean, NJ made such an impact on my timing and success. He had been my personal trainer for quite awhile, and when I started to have issues he took on my “problem” head on.  Eddie was very helpful and caring, always making suggestions, tweaking some of my Pilates moves, and making sure I didn’t worsen my injury.  Not only did my injury stop advancing so quickly, my physical wellbeing actually improved.

Then Eddie started his own boot camp program a few doors down from the gym at Ultimate Fit Zone.  He really encouraged me to participate in the boot camp.  And of course, with my injury, I didn’t think it was even possible (bear crawls, really?).  But Eddie never stopped encouraging me and showing me how to modify exercises so it wouldn’t upset my  hip. The other people who workout at the boot camp are also great, as is Bonnie, the other personal trainer that works with Eddie. Bonnie also always made a point to stop and direct me in a different way that would be better for my hip.  It was only until just recently that I had to stop training with Eddie and doing his boot camp classes and wait for my surgery date.  Everyday work and family obligations were the most I could manage. Plus I had become a grandmother to TWINS!

I had my surgery on April 9 2014, and just  3 short weeks later, my PT told me I no longer really needed a cane !  The strength training that I did with Eddie at his gym and at the boot camp gym has served me so well. My pain was minimal and my recovery time was so quick!  When I was doing Rehab, the PTs would tell me that just from looking at me perform exercises, it wasn’t even noticeable that I had a hip replacement.  Keeping your body strengthened and conditioned is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Not to mention your family. Being a grandmother to twins, there isn’t much time to just sit around!

I think what’s important is that I wouldn’t have done this well if it wasn’t for the support I received from Eddie and the Ultimate family. I am truly grateful for everything! (And believe it or not, I had a lot of fun just trying to keep it going, can’t wait to get back in and have My “hip” kicked!)

June 19, 2014 is my return to the Ultimate Fit Zone boot camp and I am looking forward to getting back into my regular strength training routine with Eddie, Bonnie and the rest of the Ultimate family!

CrossFit Delirium is now open at Ultimate Fit Zone in Monmouth County.  The 3,000 square foot facility provides CrossFit athletes with 25 yards of real turf, two rigs from Rogue Fitness, more than a dozen medicine balls from Dynamax, a giant selection of kettle bells ranging from 18 pounds to 70 pounds, barbells for men and women, an enormous stack of plates, a full dumbbell rack, boxes, giant tires, 2 GHDs, hanging rings, ropes, sledge hammers, rowers, jump ropes, squat and press stands, and plenty, plenty more.

Monmouth County Boot Camp – Tire Flippin’ Fun!

The Ultimate Fit Zone Boot Camp is underway and participants are having fun and getting an incredible workout performing a wide variety of intense workout drills and Crossfit style exercises.

Week two of the Monmouth County boot camp had participants flipping giant tires ranging in weight from 100+ pounds to over 150 pounds.  Sound hard?  Believe it or not, men and women of all different ages and fitness levels took part in the exercise.  The tire flip is a test of total body strength, flexibility, endurance, and explosiveness. It closely mimics the starting position of linemen in football, has tremendous carry over to other sports performance, and is a staple in the strongman competition. I can’t think of a single muscle in your body that this exercise doesn’t strengthen!
